Hello friends,

I have just uploaded the recordings of our last show in Gainesville as one big honkin’ album (as it should be experienced, natch). Get it! Listen to it! Love it!

Let it become one with your ear-parts!

It has come time, my friends, to announce the sad truth: Building Rockets’ last show in Gainesville will be Saturday, June 26th, at Tim & Terry’s.

The other acts will soon be announced. Stay tuned!

It is my sad duty to inform you that our former bassist, Russell Johnson, passed away last week at the age of 50. It’s a sad day and the world is a little worse off for not having Russell in it. The last time I saw him a few months ago, he looked much older than his years, but Russell always had a young heart. He was 20 years older than me but played with the enthusiasm and energy of a teenager in their first garage band. He was a hell of a musician and a great person, and I’m proud to have called him my friend.

Rest in peace, buddy.

This past Saturday, April 3, marked the 10th anniversary of the first show I ever played at a club: Jackrabbits, in Jacksonville, Florida, with my band Ersatz Glow.

Ah, nostalgia!

Abandoning any facade of coolness, we have joined Twitter. Follow us, and specifically the sporadic adventures of Sam at buildingarocket.

This is primarily because the amount of information we post usually doesn’t justify a full email to the listserv, which is itself Clinton-era technology, and I also usually forget. So, um, hooray to laziness abetted by new media!

  • Thing One:
Show this Wednesday at CMC! With Graffiti Tree (featuring our good friend Jaryd Smart). Door is a suggested $5 donation to the CMC.
  • Thing Two: The 2nd annual Holiday CD is coming! All you need to do is shoot us an email at band [at] buildingrockets [dot com] with the subject “2009 CD”. Include your name and either “CD” if you want a physical CD or “Download” if you want just the mp3s. If you get the CD, you also get the mp3s when they’re ready. See you at the show!
