Hello friends,
I have just uploaded the recordings of our last show in Gainesville as one big honkin’ album (as it should be experienced, natch). Get it! Listen to it! Love it!
Hello friends,
I have just uploaded the recordings of our last show in Gainesville as one big honkin’ album (as it should be experienced, natch). Get it! Listen to it! Love it!
Only one more day before the last show! Festivities start at 9pm, and there’s no cover charge!
Rough schedule:
9:30-10:15 - Ersatz Glow
10:30-11:00 - Paco
11:15-1:30 - Building Rockets
And the requisite facebook link:
Facebook | The Final Gainesville Building Rockets Show!/The Final Ersatz Glow Show!
The first opening slot at our last show will also be the farewell show for Sam’s original band, Ersatz Glow. Ersatz Glow will reform for one night only, and will go on around 9:30.
Other acts to be confirmed later.
It has come time, my friends, to announce the sad truth: Building Rockets’ last show in Gainesville will be Saturday, June 26th, at Tim & Terry’s.
The other acts will soon be announced. Stay tuned!
It is my sad duty to inform you that our former bassist, Russell Johnson, passed away last week at the age of 50. It’s a sad day and the world is a little worse off for not having Russell in it. The last time I saw him a few months ago, he looked much older than his years, but Russell always had a young heart. He was 20 years older than me but played with the enthusiasm and energy of a teenager in their first garage band. He was a hell of a musician and a great person, and I’m proud to have called him my friend.
Rest in peace, buddy.

Building Rockets - “Put You In Your Place” (rehearsal) written by Russell Johnson
This past Saturday, April 3, marked the 10th anniversary of the first show I ever played at a club: Jackrabbits, in Jacksonville, Florida, with my band Ersatz Glow.

Ah, nostalgia!
Last minute message!
Show this Friday at 1982 Bar with Big Boat, The M-1s, and Ebonflow! We’re headlining, so bring everyone you know plus strangers!
Also, the EP’s almost done, so last chance to reserve a free one for yourselves! Email us with subject line: Free EP or some such and include your name and address (or email if you just want the mp3s) to band [at] buildingrockets [dot] com.
We have two shows this week! The first is at the Backstage Lounge this Wednesday, Feb. 3rd with Fantastic Plastic Lovers.
The second is Sam playing Building Rockets and other songs at the Original Pizza Palace on Friday, Feb. 5th at 7:30. There is no cover and excellent pizza and other food and beverages.
Hope to see you out this week!
Abandoning any facade of coolness, we have joined Twitter. Follow us, and specifically the sporadic adventures of Sam at buildingarocket.
This is primarily because the amount of information we post usually doesn’t justify a full email to the listserv, which is itself Clinton-era technology, and I also usually forget. So, um, hooray to laziness abetted by new media!
